09 Jul Dried Fruit vs. Fresh Fruit
We’ve all seen those nutrition comparison pictures, showing a bowl of fresh fruit next to a bowl of dried fruit. The information all seems very conflicting. If it’s just a piece of dried fruit, how can it be bad for you? But why do all of these comparison pictures portray dried fruit in such a bad light?
Truth is: Think of dried fruit like a piece of WHOLE fruit condensed into a small power-packed package. Dried fruit is highly nutritious and contains even more fiber, vitamins, and minerals than fresh fruit. Dried fruit is also an excellent source of antioxidants. On the other hand, dried fruit is also higher in calories and sugar due to its compact size. This makes it quite easy to enjoy too much of a good thing!
Bottom Line: Dried fruit is, in fact, good for your health and has a variety of benefits, but a little can go a long way — 1/4 of a cup is the proper portion for most dried fruits! Be cognizant about how much dried fruit you are consuming, but don’t eliminate these treats from your diet it they are something you enjoy! Just be sure to look for dried fruit without additives like sugar!
